Triathlon Season 2004

This year, I'm planning on doing three triathlons, which is three times as many as I've ever done in one season!  Hopefully I can stay injury free through all of it and have lots of fun!

SeaFair Triathlon: July 18, 2004

The first triathlon of the season was the SeaFair triathlon.  It's a sprint distance triathlon (0.75 km swim, 20 km bike, 5 km run).  This was my first co-ed triathlon.  It's definitely a little different  competing against both men and women.  The main difference is that really tough looking men in their 40's and 50's go racing by on the bike about 5 times as fast as I'm going!  That brings me to one of the coolest aspects of this triathlon.  I now have a road bike!!  Road bikes are awesome!  I felt really strong in this triathlon and I did the bike part considerably faster than in years past.  My total time of 1:37:47 was also my best time yet.  The other cool thing about this triathlon was that I did it with Elyse, Christy, and Kelly.  We all finished within 3 minutes of each other and saw each other along the way.  That was really fun.

Danskin Triathlon: August 15, 2004

My second triathlon of the year was the Danskin Triathlon.  This is the third time I've done this triathlon.  It's a women's triathlon and it's the biggest triathlon in the world, with about 5000 racers.  It's quite an event.  Elyse and I did it together, though unfortunately, we didn't get to start in the same wave.  Both of us worked really hard in this race.  In fact, I can definitely say that I worked harder in this triathlon than I ever have before.  And, I got the slowest time ever!!  There were a few problems with this race.  First off, the swim was WAY longer than it was supposed to be.  My swim time was 32 minutes, and my slowest swim time ever was around 22 minutes.  The winner of the race finished 10 minutes slower than last year, so the swim was definitely messed up.  Then, on the bike section, I dropped my chain on a big hill, so I had to stop, fix it, and then run up the rest of the hill.  Despite that, however, I met my goal of finishing the bike in under 40 minutes!  Even though my time is my worst time ever, my rankings in each of the events and the total time were better than before, so that's exciting!
